Wyatt's first doctor visit

On Monday I had to take Wyatt in for his first check up and to get a blood test done. They had orginally worried that he might have jaundice, but it turned out he was just fine.

We go home . . . finally!

Saturday night I asked to be released from the hospital. We just weren't getting any rest between the nurses checking on me and Wyatt and visitors coming in.

We got home around 9 pm.

Not long after Scott went to sleep, Wyatt started screaming. He screamed at me for over 5 hours. It didn't matter what I did. He finally just wore himself out.

The next morning I was reading the papers that they give you when you leave the hospital and it said that it would probably happen. It's caused from removing the baby from the only external environment that it knows. I wish someone had said something like that when I was in the hospital. I would have sent him to the nursery and spent the night in the hospital.

I had been too excited when he was born early Friday morning to sleep and had just laid there and looked at him. Then, I didn't get much sleep because of the nurses and Scott's snoring.

Oh well, lesson learned.

FINALLY!

Just before midnight on Thursday, we decided it was time for a c-section.

The surgical team was called together and I was sent in to the OR. They strapped me down and gave me a spinal. I didn't realize that they were going to strap me down.

I had them go tell Scott that I was strapped down so that he was prepared for it when he walked in the room. The nurse came back and said that the surgery would be delayed for a few minutes more. Apparently Scott was feeling faint.

He finally came in and things got started. I finally felt them sit Wyatt up and heard him cry loud and strong.

I couldn't really see him as they were checking him out and cleaning him up but Scott could.

It felt like it took forever for them to get me closed up and into recovery so that I could finally really see my baby boy.

He was absolutely beautiful and looked just like Scott, including his full, smoochable lips.

I was given a little time to cuddle and nurse him before they sent me to my room.

As I was being wheeled passed my parents, I could see Dad looking for the baby. I let him know that the baby was coming behind me in his own little cart.

Mom and Dad had an appointment early Friday morning. So, they wanted to spend some time with the baby before they had to hurry back home.

Wyatt was 8 lbs, 8 ozs. and was 20.5 inches long . . . what a big, beautiful boy!

And we wait some more . . .

Thursday my parents showed up. Michelle came in with a magazine and a Mountain Dew and my water was broken.

And I waited some more . . . still no baby.

The big day comes . . . and goes.

I was due on Thursday, April 13, 2006. The doctor had me make an appointment for the 14th "just in case". I had also planned on starting my maternity leave on the 14th.

I left work on the 13th convinced that I would go in to the doctor in the morning and they would send me to the hospital to be induced.

I did not get to see my normal doctor and the one that I DID see wanted to give Wyatt a little more time.

They made another appointment for me the following Wednesday, the 19th.

I went in on the 19th and they did a final ultrasound to make sure the baby was ok. He was doing fine. They said that he would probably weigh about 9 pounds but that they could be off by as much as a pound.

The technician also pointed out how to tell that Wyatt had plenty of hair in the ultrasound.

They told me to check into the hospital between noon and one. So, I went home and did a few last minute chores. I also emailed everyone to let them know that I was going.

My bag had already been packed and in my car for a couple of months.

We got to the hospital around 12:30. Scott had thought ahead and taken me out to lunch.

They checked me in and the wait began.

That evening, they used the gel to start my labor. It started doing its job in the middle of the night and they gave me some painkillers to help me get some sleep.

Morning came . . . no baby.

We survived the holidays . . . barely

The holidays were very busy and I was very obviously pregnant. It made everything a huge effort. But, I did make it to have my yearly Christmas pictures done. I just didn't have them done on Santa's lap like I usually do.

And then I discovered that the little girl that I wanted was a boy!

I was convinced from the very beginning that we would have a little girl. I dreamed of little pink dress and lacy socks . . .hair bows, dolls, and dishes.

Two days after my birthday we went back for the second ultrasound. The technician asked if we wanted to know what we were having. We told her we did. As soon as she scanned down Wyatt's little body, it was obvious. We were having a boy. You couldn't miss it on the screen although the pictures aren't as obvious.

All of his other measurements were completely within the normal range and I was sent in to see the doctor.

I remember sitting there just stunned. I was heartbroken. I cried off and on for two days.

But, I finally decided that it was better to have a baby than not . . . and began dealing with the fact that I would have a boy.

Our baby Shower

Trina threw a great baby shower for me. I was shocked at the number of people who showed up and all of the great things they bought for Wyatt. Looking back thru the pictures, I can't help but smile.

He's outgrown some of the things. But, some people also bought things that were for when he's older. I enjoy looking thru those things and it's so much fun each time Wyatt gets to the point where he can use some of those things. It's so much fun to pull out a new outfit or toy for him from his closet.

Michelle made the diaper cake in the picture. I opened it up and used those diapers first. It was tough to take it apart though. It was so cute that I wanted to leave it like it was.
